Behind the Soundboard: My Experience with Alma Gov
Share
Recently, I had a cool gig doing sound for Alma Gov during her masterclass at Rimon School of Music. One of my teachers mentioned she was coming. I was already planning to attend, but then my teacher asked if I could handle the sound engineering. Challenge accepted.
Getting Ready
Setting up wasn't too complicated, but it needed attention to detail. Alma needed a keyboard, so we had a Roland F4 that I set up for her. She also brought a ukulele. Her manager, who is very close to her, played the classical guitar. Additionally, I needed three mics: one for Alma, one for her manager, and one for my friend Itamar, who interviewed her during the masterclass. I was working solo for about 90% of the time, which kept me on my toes.
Setting Up
I arrived early to set up. The room had high ceilings, so acoustics were tricky. I made sure each instrument and mic was perfectly balanced. The keyboard needed to be clear and crisp, the ukulele bright, and the classical guitar warm and resonant.
During the Masterclass
As the masterclass began, I made real-time adjustments to ensure everything sounded great. Alma’s music was flawless, and the discussions during the masterclass went smoothly. She also had the audience ask a lot of questions, keeping the session interactive and lively.
The Experience
The vibe was fantastic. Alma and her team were professional but laid-back and approachable. Itamar did a great job facilitating the masterclass, and it was awesome to see everything come together. We also had some time to talk and get to know Alma personally, which was really nice.
Reflecting on the Experience
This experience was both fun and educational. It wasn’t just about the technical side of things; it was about creating an atmosphere where the music and conversation could shine. Working with Alma enhanced my love for sound engineering—making the music come alive and ensuring everyone enjoys the moment.
In conclusion, handling the sound for Alma’s masterclass was a rewarding experience that combined my technical skills with my passion for music. I’m looking forward to more opportunities like this to grow and contribute to amazing musical events.
