I’m Melo, and today I want to take you back to a significant milestone in my music career—my first ever vocal recording. This was a pivotal moment as I captured the vocals for my song "Please Come Back" at Rimon School of Music.
Background
"Please Come Back" is a deeply personal song for me, dedicated to the hostages in Gaza. It was two months after I wrote the song and had the entire playback recorded. I was eager to bring the song to life with the perfect vocal performance.
The Preparation
After spending two months working on the playback due to various logistical challenges, the day for the vocal recording finally arrived. It was my first ever time recording vocals at Rimon. This session was particularly special because I’m usually the recording engineer, but this time, I was the artist. I brought in Gal De Paz, a well-known indie singer in Israel and my vocal coach, to assist me during the session. Her presence and expertise were invaluable, and we had an incredible vibe going in the studio.
The Recording Session
We used the Warm Audio 251 to record my vocals, running it through a Universal Audio 4-710d preamp to ensure a rich and warm sound. To set the right mood, I created a cool vibe in the live room with purple lighting, which added a creative and relaxed atmosphere. Even tho we had a good vibe going, it was still a very emotional and deep song so we had to balance it out for me by putting photos of hostages in front of me. A very memorable experience.
Coaching and support
Recording vocals can be hard sometimes, but having Gal De Paz coaching me made a huge difference. Her guidance helped me deliver my best performance, and her support was crucial throughout the session. I had a few friends in the control room here and there for support as well, and they had a very nice effect on the session.
Reflection
This first vocal recording was more than just a step in my music career; it was a moment of personal growth and discovery. Capturing the vocals for "Please Come Back" taught me the importance of preparation, perseverance, and the power of a supportive environment. It reinforced my love for music and my commitment to creating songs that resonate with others.
Thank you for joining me on this journey down memory lane. I look forward to sharing more of my projects and experiences with you all.
