I’m Melo, and today I want to share a special project close to my heart. As a music producer and student at Rimon School of Music, I’ve had the opportunity to work on many exciting projects. One that stands out is when I recorded the school choir for a trance remix. This experience not only enriched my skills but also showcased the unique fusion of choral and electronic elements.
Backstory
A friend of mine wanted to create a remix of "Dies Irae" from Requiem by Mozart. She asked if I could record the choir for this remix, and I eagerly accepted the challenge.
The Preparation
Preparation was key. We had a few hurdles to overcome, such as coordinating schedules and figuring out where and when to record. After solving the problem of when and where to record it at Rimon, I spent hours planning the session. I had about an hour or so beforehand to prepare the microphones and cables. We used the Mojave MA-301FET mics for the room, two Earthworks SR25s for the soprano and alto, and the UA SP-1 for the tenor and bass sections.
The Recording Session
The choir had a three-hour rehearsal from five to eight in the evening. While they practiced, I prepared the microphones and cables. During their half-hour break between 18:30 and 19:00, I got the mixer ready. At eight o'clock, when they took a 5 minute break, I quickly set up the mics and began recording. The entire recording session took about half an hour. The choir’s enthusiasm was palpable, and their commitment to the project was inspiring. As we began recording, I focused on balancing the different vocal sections, ensuring each voice was heard and harmonized beautifully.
Challenges and Triumphs
Every project comes with its challenges, and this one was no different. Our main challenges were figuring out where to record and coordinating the timing. However, the sense of community and shared purpose made it all worthwhile. The choir's dedication shone through, and the end result was a powerful, moving piece of music.
Reflection
This project was a reminder of why I fell in love with music production. It’s about more than just sound; it’s about connecting with others, sharing stories, and making a difference. Recording the school choir for the trance remix of "Dies Irae" from the Requiem by Mozart was a profound experience that reinforced my belief in the transformative power of music.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I look forward to sharing more of my projects and experiences with you all.
